One of the most pressing issues of today is excessive weight. We started forgetting that food is not just calories, proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Food is first and foremost a set of trace elements and fiber needed by the body. This is not just delicious (or not very much) substance that fills the stomach for the sake of energy. It can and should give us a lot more, including health, beauty, youth and longevity.

All body cells are constantly changing. Regeneration takes place without interruption. Researchers say that every seven years all of our cells are completely renewed. That is, theoretically, we can live forever, staying young.

It is tempting, but hard to believe. And all because we do not lie in incubators all day long, but keep destroying our body actively. How? We breathe the wrong air, eat the wrong food, which should not be considered food at all (processed foods and chemically processed food). Moreover, we apply different super-creams, drink alcohol, smoke…

Stop. Enough pessimism. There will be no ideal conditions. We all live on the same planet where the air quality varies slightly. We do not mind a glass of alcohol every now and then. We cannot completely avoid household or other chemicals in the modern world no matter how hard we try. The only way to do it is to go living on a deserted island.

For all those who decided not to leave civilization, we suggest another way: let’s take a look at the positive side of life, namely, what we can do to neutralize the harmful effects on the body and prolong our life and youth. The simplest way is to include in your diet as many healthy foods as possible, to fight harmful substances and accelerate regeneration.

1. Celery

What it is rich in: celery is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B9, C, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, phenolic acids, and amino acids.

Why it is good: celery is one of the most useful vegetables. It cleans and removes excess fluid from the body. Celery juice alkalizes and produces an anti-inflammatory effect. In addition, celery prevents and helps in the treatment of such diseases as hypertension, sleep disturbances and even cancer.

An additional bonus: it refers to aphrodisiacs, so it increases libido in both sexes.

Dosage: 400-500 ml of juice twice a week or more. Besides, celery is excellent for salads and hot dishes.

2. Avocado

What it is rich in: vitamin E, lutein, zeaxanthin, D-mannoheptulose.

Why it is good: no fruit or nut contains as much vitamin E as avocado does. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and has a special feature to restore damaged skin. Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, which at least help our skin to retain moisture and provide the assimilation of carotenoids. D-mannoheptulose affects the dermis positively and increases the levels of collagen, which protects the skin from premature wrinkles. Moreover, avocado is rich in antioxidants, which reduce age spots.

Dosage: 0.5-1 avocado three times a week. Add it to salads, smoothies, make dip sauces (guacamole).

3. Green tea

What it is rich in: polyphenols and catechins.

Why it is good: a wonderful antioxidant, which protects the skin from harmful influences of the environment. It has a positive effect on blood pressure and helps to resist stress. The positive effect of green tea is determined by polyphenols and catechins which can “communicate” with our genes and cause our body to resist stress and the harmful effect of tobacco and pollution coming from the air. If you drink green tea on a regular basis, it may cure skin damages that have already appeared (wrinkles, skin disorders resulting from sunlight, and dilated capillaries in the skin).

Dosage: two cups of green tea a day. Choose the varieties that contain less or no caffeine.

4. Pomegranate

What it is rich in: vitamin C, potassium, vitamin B5, ellagitannin, catechins, anthocyanins.

Why it is good: this is one of the most powerful antioxidants among foods. It protects the skin from free radicals and oxidative stress. Pomegranate prevents cancer, heart disease and inflammatory processes in the body.

Dosage: one glass of pomegranate grains three times a week or 50 ml of juice without sugar daily. The seeds can be used as a topping in salads and desserts. It is better to eat whole grains, as the juice alone contains too much sugar.

An additional bonus: pomegranate seeds clean the intestines.

5. Watermelon

What it is rich in: lycopene, beta-carotene, elastin, a variety of different vitamins and minerals, water.

Why it is good: watermelon saturates the body with fluid. Carotenoids protect our skin, and vitamins C and B2 fight free radicals. Watermelon helps with edema and removes toxins from the body. Its seeds are rich in protein, minerals and essential fatty acids.

Dosage: according to one’s desire. Eat watermelon during the season, especially when it’s hot.

A useful idea: to cleanse the skin of the face and refresh its color, you can wipe the face with watermelon rind (its inner side).

6. Spinach

What it is rich in: folic acid, vitamin C, iron, carotenoids.

Why it is good: spinach contains a lot of antioxidants, which prevent the appearance of wrinkles. Carotenoids protect the skin and maintain its beauty.

Dosage: 200-300 grams of spinach three times a week. It is suitable for salads and smoothies.

7. Blueberries

What they are rich in: anthocyanins, resveratrol.

Why they are good: blueberries are one of the most powerful antioxidants. These berries combat oxidative stress that leads to wrinkles and dull complexion. Anthocyanins affect dermis and collagen protecting them against oxidative stress. Resveratrol, which is found in the skin of blueberries, is the real anti-age substance. It is also found in black grapes and in red wine. Blueberries are a truly irreplaceable product for eczema and wrinkles.

Dosage: according to one’s desire (too large doses can cause constipation). Blueberries are suitable for smoothies, salads and desserts.

A useful idea: in winter you can buy frozen blueberries. Forest blueberries are more useful than grown on farms.

8. Eggs

What they are rich in: nine essential amino acids in a perfect proportion, vitamin B12, lutein, zeaxanthin, and choline.

Why they are good: eggs contain protein of high quality, which is essential for cell repair and building tissues. Our brain and nervous system need choline and vitamin B12, which reduce the effects of stress. Sulfur compounds found in eggs help our body produce its own antioxidant glutathione, which reduces inflammation and slows the aging processes in cells.

Note that these properties are best manifested in organic eggs; besides, they should not be subjected to a long thermal treatment. Therefore, in order to rejuvenate the body, it is better to eat soft-boiled eggs.

Dosage: one egg a day.
