Your Stool Shade: When to Worry?

As you have surely noticed, the color of your feces can change within quite a wide range, and it is indicative of changes in your body. Some shades can attest to malignant processes going on inside.

Needless to say, our bowel functions rarely qualify as a good conversational topic. If we ever mention them we tend to do it facetiously. People feel that although it is a habitual thing with everyone, it is hardly worth discussing outside toilet walls. Then we forget about it as soon as we are done and switch on to our routine chores. Yet it is worthwhile to note the color of the feces, for it may signal there are reasons to take care of your health.

Really significant are seven colors, but before looking more closely into the matter, bear in mind that it is not a medical article, and it is designed to attract your attention to possible medical issues, and if you get suspicious that something might be not right, the best thing is to go consult your physician.

First, let’s consider the case when the feces are yellow. It can happen when you are getting ready for a colonoscopy, then it is natural, but if you are not, it may indicate a shortage of bile.

If the poop is black it may be the result of the intake of Pepto-Bismol or iron supplements; if it is not the case, there might be bleeding in your digestive system.

The opposite, that is when the feces come out white (or slightly brownish), it might again signify that there is an insufficient amount of bile. At worst it might occur that you have got bile stones.

The poop colored red is likely to cause consternation – but it doesn’t have to. You have grounds for worrying if red comes in drops or streaks – that could mean the digestive system leaks blood.

Green feces may look really weird, but in fact, it is a healthy sign, often meaning that you have had a big meal of vegetables. This is when looks belie the facts.

Strictly speaking, not all the people take so strong an interest in what is left in the toilet seat. Still, if your health gives you cause to worry, why not take a look at what could be a telling signal – doctors analyze stool, you know. You may get an inkling of the way the processes in your body go. And you can be warned and go consult a doctor in good time before things took a turn for worse.
