Too Much Sleep Worse Than Sleep Deprivation

Specialists of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine conducted a thorough investigation and revealed that excess sleep is much more dangerous to the human body than the lack of it. Ten hours’ sleep may threaten sleepyheads with diabetes, heart disease, high and unreasonable anxiety and obesity.

It has long been estimated that the optimal sleep duration for people over 45 should be 7 to 9 hours. Adhering to this rhythm regularly, you can greatly improve your health and even overcome many chronic diseases.

Academy staff have come to this conclusion by analyzing the medical records of 54 million Americans aged 45. Nearly a third of the people tested suffered from lack of sleep (slept 6 hours or less). Two-thirds of the study participants had an optimal duration of sleep (slept 7-9 hours), and the rest slept more than 10 hours.

Janet Croft from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention claims that the relationship between sleep duration and unhealthy chronic diseases is partly due to mental disorders and obesity.
