Excessive Painkillers Intake Leads to More Pain

Painkillers intake may actually increase the amount of headaches and not vice versa. This is the conclusion reached by researchers from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the UK.

According to study’s author, professor Gillian Leng, taking large amounts of painkillers causes more pain. And people who are used to treating chronic migraine with pills, in fact, contribute to the fact that pain aggravates. A correct diagnosis and proper treatment can help in this case.

Professor Leng says it is important for people to distinguish between different types of headaches that require different treatment. Many people do not realize that excessive use of painkillers for the treatment of migraine headaches, for example, leads to an aggravation – the pain will become more frequent.

The Institute publishes a new guide for all British doctors, which refers to the importance of proper and justified painkiller selection of in the treatment of headaches. According to the statistics, in the United Kingdom, about 10 million people suffer from frequent headaches, and it causes 25 million lost working days due to sick-leaves.

500,000 women and 100,000 men in the country suffer from daily headaches caused by overuse of painkillers. And we are not talking about the overdose, people just take them for longer periods than recommended.
