HuffPost Style has shared new information on the effect of nail salon lamps on the skin. If previously this effect had been considered insignificant, experts started thinking how to protect the clients from radiation.
Previously, Cosmo experts (USA) claimed that you would need to do gel manicure weekly for about 250 years to feel the harmful effects of UV rays. However, scientists from Georgia Regents University warn that there is no exhaustive research on this subject yet. They have found that nail salon lamps produce higher levels of UV-A radiation. The risks, in fact, exist.
Therefore, using manicure lamps or doing salon gel manicure, it is better to follow certain precautions. For example:
- Prefer fan drying or use LED bulbs instead of UV lamps.
- Study the labels when buying nail polish. Make sure that your nail polish contains no toxic chemicals such as dibutyl phthalate, toluene, and formaldehyde.
- Take a break between gel manicures to keep your nails healthy.
- Apply sunscreen on your hands if you use UV lamps.
- Use special gloves that protect against UV-A rays. Do not neglect them, if offered in the salon.
