Diabetes is more common in the world than it seems. We have already written about it on Geniusbeauty.com. Today we would like to remind everyone what products should not be eaten by those who already suffer from this malady and those who are suspected to have this disease or have been diagnosed with a pre-diabetic condition.
Banned products in case of diabetes
Sugar, honey and artificial sweeteners
This list may also include jam, ice cream, marmalade, and marshmallow. However, it should be noted that sugar is very difficult to completely eliminate from the diet. Yet, you can minimize its quantity and, if possible, use special sugar for people suffering from diabetes, which is sold in stores.
Chocolate and confectionery that contains it
First of all, it concerns milk and white chocolate, which contains a lot of sugar. It is allowed (in reasonable quantities) to eat bitter chocolate with a high content of cocoa beans – at least 75%.
Baked products and pastry
First of all, white bread. Baking has a very high content of fast carbohydrates, which can complicate the course of diabetes mellitus with obesity. Flour-containing products with a low glycemic index are allowed: rye and whole grain bread, wholemeal flour and bran products.
Fruits and vegetables, which include a lot of fast carbohydrates
This is a fairly large group of products including bananas, dates, figs, grapes, raisins, melons, beets, potatoes. They contribute to an increase in blood glucose levels.
Fruit juices, which include sugar
Any packaged juices are strictly prohibited: they contain large amounts of both natural sugar and artificial sweeteners. Sweet carbonated drinks should not be mentioned at all – they are harmful to healthy people.
Fatty meat
Pork, lamb, and duck are “outlawed”, as well as soups cooked on the basis of these types of meat, as well as smoked meats, semi-finished products, lard, sausages.
Fatty animal products
This list includes butter, full-fat milk, yogurt and cottage cheese, cream, sour cream, yellow cheeses, margarine, mayonnaise.
Some cereals
In particular, the list includes rice, millet, semolina, and corn grits. They have a very high glycemic index.
Corn and its derivatives
Forget about popcorn, boiled and canned corn, cornflakes and muesli.
Alcohol
It can trigger hypoglycemia in people suffering from diabetes.
Fast food
Forget about fast food restaurants once and for all! French fries, burgers, nuggets, milkshakes, fried pies – all of this is prohibited.
How to live with a diagnosis of diabetes?
To begin with, we want to emphasize that diabetes mellitus of both type I and type II is not a verdict. It is quite possible to live with this disease. The provision of a varied diet is not a problem given that the basic rules are followed:
- All vegetables and fruits must be exceptionally fresh, there should be no canned foods.
- Broth (chicken or beef) should be cooked on the “second” water to reduce fat. Pork and lamb are prohibited.
- All foods must be with a low glycemic index (not more than 55 units).
