Everyone knows one or two ‘tricks and tips’ to have healthier skin. For instance, most of us have a regular skincare routine, where we make sure that our skin is clean and free from dirt. But what about preventing wrinkles and fine lines? Yes, we will all develop them at some point – but it doesn’t have to be just yet! Believe it or not, there are things you can do to take care of your skin and prevent fine lines and wrinkles from forming. We already know a few – such as staying away from the sun, moisturising, and drinking lots of water so our skin can stay fresh and hydrated. But there are other things you can do to prevent ageing – and they needn’t be that difficult, either. So here are the top three easy things you can do for healthy, wrinkle-free skin.
Eat foods rich in vitamins
Perhaps we already have an idea of what food to eat to have better-looking skin. But to have skin that’s free from wrinkles, it’s best to eat foods rich in vitamins and minerals. In a study in the Netherlands in 2019, it was found that women’s habits regarding nutrition and diet affected the formation of wrinkles on the face. In the study, those with diets rich in red meat and snacks tended to have more wrinkles than those whose diets included more veggies and fruits.
Certain foods also have antioxidant properties or are anti-inflammatory, enhancing the skin’s elasticity and protecting it from damage and ageing. These foods and drinks include olive oil, green tea, avocados, salmon, flax seeds, pomegranates, and veggies like carrots, greens, broccoli, bell pepper, and pumpkin.
Relax your facial muscles
Have you ever heard the term ‘resting b_tch face?’ If you have, you probably have a face that looks b_tchy when it exhibits no emotion or is ‘resting.’ This is often exacerbated when you repeatedly make facial movements, like frowning, squinting, lip pursing, or even laughing! Some people tend to scowl or frown, even when they are not aware of it – such as when they are concentrating. If you have developed premature frown lines or wrinkles because of this, you can always have anti-wrinkle injections – and thousands of people are having it done as we speak! In addition, if you find yourself doing these things frequently, try to look for ways to be less stressed. For example, you can do some deep breathing exercises, yoga, exercise more, meditation, and practice mindfulness. You’d be amazed – if you become more mindful of your facial expressions, it will be easier to control them.
Sleep properly
According to skin experts, there is also a way of sleeping to prevent the onset of wrinkles – and that is to sleep on your back. In another study done in 2016, individuals’ sleeping posture or position was found to affect how wrinkles formed. For example, people who slept on their stomachs or sides were more prone to forming wrinkles as their faces were pressed and distorted. So instead of sleeping on your stomach or side, try sleeping on your back. Also, you may find that using a silk pillowcase is gentler on the skin compared to other fabrics, like cotton, as they have less friction and abrasion.
